Perfectly Poetical: Choose your own (poetical) adventure

From LSL Buttons

Welcome to the first Perfectly Poetical Tuesday of 2010! This month, I'm letting you run wild: you pick the type of poem you'd like to write! You don't even have to know what kind of poem you wrote! Just make sure you link to this post.

Then stop back by, comment, link up, and check out everyone's original poetry.
  • Today's style: Your choice
  • Coming 2/9/10: Shakespeare - time to dust off your thees and thous! If you're really adventurous, you can bust out some iambic pentameter*! (*optional)
  • What is PerPoTues and how can I play?

While I'm on the subject of inspiration, here's my poem this month...

The Question of Inspiration

Inspiration is only 1%, they say
The rest is all hard work. Okay.
Still, I'd like to know:
Where does the inspiration go?
And why does it go away?
It'd be nice if it'd just stay,
Hang out while there's still daylight
Instead of stopping in so late at night.

Your Five Faves of '09

I haven't been able to keep up with the blogosphere so much recently. So I'm hoping you can point me to a few blog posts that shouldn't be missed.

What were your 5 favorite posts last year?

They can be from personal or professional blogs. They can even be from your own blog. (But if all 5 come from your own blog, you're gonna start to look a little narcissistic.) (Just sayin'.) And if you can't think of 5, just tell me 1 or 2 or 3.

Post a comment with your Five Faves, and little blurb about why you loved each one. Was it funny? Inspiring? Thought-provoking? Just beautifully written?

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

PerPoTues '10 kicks off in one week!

2010's Perfectly Poetical Tuesdays begin next week! If you're new, this is a great time to start!

Here's how it works:

  • Perfectly Poetical Tuesday or PerPoTues is hosted here the second Tuesday of each month.
  • It's about having fun creating original poetry.
  • Each PerPoTues features a different poetic theme - either an actual poetic form (i.e. limerick) or poems in the style of a famous poet (i.e. Dr. Seuss).
  • You don't have to follow poetic forms to the letter. As long as your poem somewhat resembles the theme, you can take some poetic license!
  • The topic is up to you. (Just please keep it family-friendly, as we do have kids that participate with their parents.)
  • You write a poem in that month's style and link to my PerPoTues post.
  • Then you come back to the main post, leave a comment and a link, and check out other people's poems.
  • Each month I'll announce the style for the next month. For example, December's PerPoTues post said you get to pick the style for January!
Also, feel free to use one of these nifty buttons if you'd like.

If you have questions, just let me know.

On the menu: Inspiration

My brother and soon-to-be sister-in-law got me a Christmas gift with you in mind. Yes, you. You there reading this blog.

I unwrapped America's Test Kitchen's 30-Minute Suppers (which is similar to this book, but with more recipe cards), and Christine commented, "We thought this would give you some inspiration for your blog."

And it has.

In fact, I'm making one of the recipes tonight.

Merry Christmas to you.

Here's what's on the menu this week:

Mon: Moraccan Meatballs with Saffron-Tomato Sauce (from the Test Kitchen book) (with plenty of my own alterations, of course) couscous and garlic kale on the side

Tue: Baked potatoes topped with pinto bean chili, cinnamon oranges on the side

Wed: Spaghetti squash with roasted red peppers and chicken sausage

Thr: Cuban Black Beans and Rice

Fri: Pita pizzas with leftover goodies from this week's meals (tomatoes, peppers, sausage, etc.)

You might be able to help me out with something - I bought radishes for the Cuban beans, but they came in a bunch, and I only need half of them for that. Have any other good radish recipes? (Or live in Phoenix and want some radishes?)

One last thing - the Chive Talkin' Menu Plan Blogroll is now Mindful Menus. And it's supposed to be healthy, so I hope I fit the bill! (My plan is mostly healthy - right?) Anyway, head on over there for more menu inspiration!
