Share a poem (or two)!

It's the final day of National Poetry Month. How shall we celebrate? Let me count the ways...

  • Read some poetry
  • Post a favorite poem in the comments
  • Write a poem (you can post that too! :) )
  • Visit SortaCrunchy for even more poetry
I decided to post two poems from my childhood since this is blog is about kid/baby stuff mostly when I don't get distracted in theory. The first is one I remember my dad reciting when I was little, and the second is one I memorized as a child.

Fog
by Carl Sandburg

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

The Whole Duty of Children
by Robert Louis Stevenson

A child should always say what’s true
And speak when he is spoken to
And behave mannerly at the table

At least as far as he is able.

  1. Oh, I do love "Fog." That was always one of my students' favorites, too, when I was teaching. Love that Stevenson selection, as well! Very appropriate. And GREAT photos to go with!

Thanks for playing along today. Happy poetry!

"This isn't a poem but I thought it was cute enough to share ..."

    A Cup of Tea

One day my mother was out and my dad was in charge of me.

I was maybe 2 1/2 years old and had just recovered from an accident.

Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a get-well gift and it was one of my favorite toys.

Daddy was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought Daddy a little cup of 'tea', which was just water.

After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Mom came home.

My Dad made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!'

My Mom waited, and sure enough, here I come down the hall with a cup of tea for Daddy and she watches him drink it up.

Then she says, 'Did it ever occur to you that the only place that baby can reach to get water is the toilet?'

  5. Great poem choices!

Thanks for visiting my blog! I love Beatrix Potter! Plus, I am raising 3 rats. They are actually great pets and an interesting behavioral study (says the Social Sciences student). :)

What do you have to say about that?
